With all the recent news surrounding Facebook and filter bubbles, we thought it might be nice to revisit this video on the topic . . . from ten years ago.

“As web companies strive to tailor their services (including news and search results) to our personal tastes, there’s a dangerous unintended consequence: We get trapped in a “filter bubble” and don’t get exposed to information that could challenge or broaden our worldview.” (Pariser, 2011)

Eli Pariser argues powerfully that this will ultimately prove to be bad for us and bad for democracy. Take a look at the video, and maybe spend some time exploring your own filter bubble. You might be surprised at what you find (and what you don’t).
