It’s getting to the holiday season, which means that we are all getting ready to cook those Thanksgiving dinners. Along with the holidays comes the chilly weather of fall and winter. It’s time to get inside, turn on the your fireplace and heat, and make a warm beverage for you and your family to sip on.

Hot Apple Cider

This spiced cider is easy to make with seven ingredients and four simple steps.

Here’s what you’ll need to get ready:

  • 6 cups apple cider
  • ¼ cup real maple syrup
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 6 whole cloves
  • 6 whole allspice berries
  • 1 orange peel, cut into strips
  • 1 lemon peel, cut into strips

Step 1:

Your first step is going to be to pour the apple cider and maple syrup into a large stainless steel saucepan.

Step 2:

Next, you’re going to want to place the cinnamon sticks, cloves, allspice berries, orange peel and lemon peel in the center of a washed square of cheesecloth and fold up the sides of the cheesecloth to enclose the bundle. Then tie it up with a length of kitchen string. Drop the spice bundle into the cider mixture. If you do not have a cheesecloth, pretty much any thin clean cloth will do.

Step 3:

Place the saucepan over moderate heat for about 5 minutes for a gas stovetop or 10 for an electric one. Once you see that yor cider has come to a nice simmer, you can remove it.

Step 4:

Once removed from the heat, discard the spice bundle. Ladle the cider into big cups or mugs, adding a fresh cinnamon stick to each serving if desired. And finally, get cozy in a warm blanket and sip on your hot spiced cider.
